Discover how Mister Transmission can rebuild a transmission, why we rebuild transmissions, and what your options are if your transmission needs a rebuild.
If your vehicle has a badly damaged transmission, a transmission with a seemingly unsolvable problem, or if you’re restoring a vehicle, it might be valuable to learn a bit about transmission rebuilds. These aren’t quick fixes and they’re not something we at Mister Transmission suggest lightly. A transmission rebuild is a labour-intensive solution to hard problems.
Sometimes a transmission is just shot. If a transmission suffers extensive damage because of a collision or overheating, then it may be necessary to rebuild it, salvaging the salvageable parts and replacing those that are beyond repair. Sometimes transmissions have confounding problems that defy pinpointing. It’s sometimes necessary to take a transmission apart piece by piece looking for the damaged item or items.
A transmission rebuild, also known as a complete overhaul, involves the removal and disassembly of the transmission in its entirety. Our technicians will inspect every part for wear and damage. If a part is in good working order, we’ll clean it in a special cleaning solution, and if it’s damaged, we’ll replace it.
We’ll replace parts with friction surfaces, such as bands and clutches, and all seals and gaskets, as a matter of course. Our technicians will also replace the torque converter, typically with a remanufactured one. We’ll check technical service bulletins to see if the auto manufacturer recommends any modifications to correct design defects. We have access to upgrade kits to help us resolve such design defects.
If a transmission rebuild sounds like a lot of work, that’s because it is. Perhaps you’re wondering if there’s a simpler alternative. Well, there is. We can replace your existing transmission with another one that has already been rebuilt or remanufactured.
However, replacement may not be your best option. Used transmissions usually have questionable provenances that can create a whole new set of issues. “New transmissions” are often aftermarket transmissions billed as new but which are in fact just rebuilt transmissions with new parts. We know that the cost of a repair is always a major concern. Repair costs vary depending on the outcome of our diagnostic testing, but we’ll help you understand the different factors that come into play. We also offer our customers flexible payment options.
No matter what transmission problem you’re experiencing, we at Mister Transmission can handle it. Our transmission technicians can solve any transmission problem you might have. Please get in touch with us today to schedule a transmission inspection, maintenance service, or repair.
