Manual Transmission Service & Repair

A manual transmission has a clutch, which is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the transmission, allowing the driver to switch gears and control your driving experience. Compared to an automatic transmission, the manual transmission is mostly made up of mechanical gears that rely on the drive to shift.

Manual transmission service is essential for keeping your manual transmission in optimal condition. Transmission fluid naturally degrades over time, which is why replacing your transmission fluid is important to keep your gears shifting smoothly. How often you need to change your transmission fluid depends on the year, make and model of your vehicle, give your local Mister Transmission a call to find out when you

Common Problems for Manual Transmission

If you are experiencing any of the following problems, you should get your transmission checked as soon as possible. Recognizing these warning signs early is key to minimizing the cost of your repair as it may only require a minor repair or service

– Check engine light is on
– Clutch is slipping – when the clutch slips, the engine will rev but the car doesn’t move as it should, or sometime not at all. This could indicate a worn clutch or clutch pedal that may require a simple adjustment, rebuild or a new clutch.
– Grinding Noises
– Noisy in Neutral – If you feel your car ‘bumping’ or ‘clanging’, this could indicate your transmission fluid needs to be topped up
– Lack of Responsiveness or delays in movement

  • The owner of the shop is very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable (great personality that would win a customer over). The only concern I had after leaving the shop was the smell of diesel fuel inside my vehicle from being in the repair shop for several hours. Several hours after leaving, I could still smell the strong fumes when entering my vehicle, despite having windows open while driving to air it out. Hopefully they will dissipate within a few days.

  • J-man was so awesome to work with. He made me feel at ease and was empathetic that a repair like a tranny rebuild would be expensive. Spent more time on the initial inspection and hoisted my car up and got a better idea what needed to be done. Would definitely keep coming here for future transmission work and maintenance.
