CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) Service & Repair
A traditional automatic transmission uses a complex series of gears to transfer the engine’s power to the wheels. A CVT is a type of automatic transmission, but it has no gears at all. Instead, it uses a pulley and belt system to provide an unlimited range of gear ratios. Popular auto makers, such as Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Chrysler and Honda, are introducing CVT’s to their model lineups to offer customers an option with improved acceleration and enhanced fuel economy.
CVT Common Problems
CVT’s are still relatively new to the market and can be very difficult and complicated to diagnose and repair. While CVT’s have fewer moving parts and are simpler in design, it is new technology and our technicians have completed extensive training specific to CVT’s and are well qualified to work with your vehicle.
Come common problems to look out for with your CVT include:
- Transmission ‘jerking’, slipping, grinding or jumping during acceleration when the car is shifting gears
- Noisy while driving – some customers have issues with a ‘whining’, ‘clanging’ or ‘rattling’ sound while driving especially with Nissan CVT’s
- Contaminated or low transmission fluid
- Check Engine Light On
- Gears changing at high RPM
My vehicle is showing at least one of these signs, what should I do?

What Customers Say About Mister Transmission
Very timely and professional work
Blair and Neil were knowledgeable and good communicators regarding the issue. Service was timely. I'm hoping that it resolved the problem.
J-man was so awesome to work with. He made me feel at ease and was empathetic that a repair like a tranny rebuild would be expensive. Spent more time on the initial inspection and hoisted my car up and got a better idea what needed to be done. Would definitely keep coming here for future transmission work and maintenance.
Was happy they called and let us know what had to be done and how much it would cost.
The intake guy was awesome and I was thoroughly impressed with how they did the initial check up of the car and didn't let me do a flush because he knew it wouldn't work.
Brought my car into the shop as a drop in. In less than 30 mins they had done a preliminary inspection and assessed the aprox cost of the repair. Car was repaired and ready to be picked up in 2 days. Total cost was at the lower end of the range quoted. As I was a drop in, they provided me a ride home. Thank you for a job well done.
Very professional service.
Blair was very nice and helpful! Couldn’t ask for better service!!!
