Car Disinfection: 5 Tips For Sanitizing Your Car Against COVID-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s best to stay indoors as much as possible. If you must go out, however, it’s best to avoid public transit as much as possible, so you’ll be relying on your car. Here are five tips for sanitizing your car against COVID-19.

1. Go For A Deep Clean

It is officially spring, so now is as good a time as ever to give your car a deep cleaning. Use disinfectant wipes or soapy water and sponge. The soap does not need to be anti-bacterial –regular soap will do– but you want to clean everything. Wipe down the steering wheel, the gearshift, the windshield wiper lever, the turn signal lever, the seat belt, the seat belt buckle, everything you regularly touch, and while you’re at it, clean the dashboard, seats, and frankly, everything else.

2. Wipe Down Commonly Touched Surfaces

If you can get your hands on some disinfectant wipes, maybe save them for regular use. Do your deep clean with a sponge and soapy water and keep wipes for everyday use. Before you enter or exit your car, give all the commonly touched surfaces a wipe down to kill any coronavirus cells on them.

3. Strap On Some Gloves

You don’t need medical grade disposable gloves for this one. If you always wear gloves when you’re in your car, you don’t need to worry about what they touch. Just make sure you put your gloves on before you touch anything but the door handle of your car (give that a wipe down, too) and take them off before you leave your car. Those are your dedicated driving gloves and that’s all they are.

4. Keep Extra Garbage Bags In Your Car

The garbage bags are for things you pick up. Takeaway food containers, groceries, and anything else you have to pick up in your car. These materials could be carrying coronavirus on them. Put them all in garbage bags so they don’t come into direct contact with any surface areas of your car. Wipe them down once you bring them inside the house or discard the packaging before going outside. You can reuse the garbage bags for outside garbage, but nothing else.

5. Wash Your Hands!

Wash your hands before you go out to your car. If possible, wash your hands after putting on your shoes, putting your wallet or money in your pocket, and anything else. Try to touch as little as possible between washing your hands and getting in your car. And then wash your hands when you come back inside.

Awesome staff and service! They couldn't fix my vehicle because it was not the transmission (my mechanic said it was transmission issues that's why I went to see them), they did give me a ball park on prices for the parts that do need to be replaced though. They put my mind at ease during a stressful situation. They were also very good at explaining to someone that knows nothing about cars what the issue was and what needed to be done. Thank you to the man at the front desk and the mechanic (gentleman with hazel eyes) that looked at my car, you guys rock!
