Discover what vehicle diagnostics are all about, how this practice helps transmission technicians fix transmissions, and when diagnostics might be useful.
The “diagnostics” in “vehicle diagnostics” come from the verb “to diagnose”. This means to analyze something for the purposes of detecting a problem and diagnosing its cause. We most often use this word in the field of medicine. If you feel unwell but you’re not sure what’s causing the problem, you visit a doctor and, hopefully, with their knowledge and their tests, they can determine the problem, diagnose your ailment, and offer a remedy. You may also occasionally run computer diagnostics on your hard drive to find any problems and clear out space.
With vehicles, the same principle applies. If you have a flat tire or if your brakes aren’t effective enough at stopping your vehicle, then it’s clear what the problem is. But not all problems are so obvious. If your check engine light comes on, you may not know why. If your transmission slips into neutral when you shift into drive after reversing out of your driveway, you don’t automatically know why. A transmission shop with cutting-edge equipment can run diagnostics and determine the cause of such problems.
At Mister Transmission, we offer vehicle diagnostics. Our technicians have access to industry-leading diagnostic equipment. This enables them to offer our customers the quickest and most accurate findings about what’s going on inside a transmission. Modern automobiles are equipped with complex computer systems. These systems increase efficiency and make driving easier, but they can also make transmission services like running diagnostics more complicated than it was years ago. At Mister Transmission, we have the technology to interface with your vehicle’s computer systems to figure out your specific transmission problems.
The first step in assessing your transmission is to connect the diagnostic equipment to your vehicle’s on-board computer. This produces a code which indicates where the problem is. After this, we take your vehicle for a test drive so that we can assess its behaviour in real-time. Sometimes, more comprehensive, hands-on evaluations are required after this, but this technology is a key tool in determining the right starting point for further investigations.
At Mister Transmission, we’re happy to offer vehicle diagnostics to our customers. We service automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, and CVT transmissions. From vehicle diagnostics, to flushing transmission fluid, to providing road tests, to complete transmission rebuilds, we can do it all. To learn more about vehicle diagnostics, or any of our other services, please contact us. Please also note that we have a comprehensive COVID-19 policy to keep everybody safe.
The evolution of transmissions has made these machines and systems increasingly complex. When transmission repairs are required, determining the cause and cure for what ails can be tricky.
