Learn about six of the more common transmission services offered by Mister Transmission and which transmission problems they can fix or prevent.
Unlike other services on this list, you can perform a transmission fluid check on your own. Depending on the model of transmission your vehicle is, checking your fluid usually consists of popping your hood, opening the appropriate cap, and inserting a dipstick. If your fluid levels are below the recommended line on the dipstick, you should top it up. While you’re at it, check the fluid itself.
Good quality automatic transmission fluid should be largely odourless and mostly translucent with a slight reddish or greenish hue. If it’s opaque or smells bad, there might be something wrong with your transmission. Transmission fluid is absolutely vital to automatic transmissions (as similar fluids are to manual transmissions). Transmission fluid cools and lubricates your transmission, and without the right amount and right quality of transmission fluid, bad things will happen. We recommend checking your fluid monthly.
If your transmission fluid is degraded, it needs to be flushed out. Damaged fluid can damage your transmission, so you don’t want to leave it in there. At Mister Transmission, we offer transmission fluid flushes where we can evacuate the old fluid and replace it with new, clean fluid.
One reason your fluid or oil levels might be low is that you have a leak. If you’ve noticed patches of transmission fluid or oil underneath your vehicle, you have a leak. Reseal jobs can be quick and easy or more involved, depending on the size of the leak.
Modern vehicles have on-board computers that can regulate the functions of the transmission. This increases efficiency. However, increased computerization also means more things that can go wrong. At Mister Transmission we offer on-board diagnostics (OBD) computer scans. Our transmission techs can interface with your vehicle’s on-board computer to pinpoint problems.
Road tests are a critical part of transmission service. We offer both a stationary test and a driving test. We will thoroughly test every position of your transmission for slipping, noises, erratic shifting, and early shift patterns.
To understand complex issues, we may recommend a lift inspection. This enables us to check a variety of different components. A pan examination can determine the extent of any damage.

The evolution of transmissions has made these machines and systems increasingly complex. When transmission repairs are required, determining the cause and cure for what ails can be tricky.
