A Manual transmission, also called a stick-shift, manual gearbox, or a standard transmission, requires the driver to shift gears manually by using the clutch and gas pedals. The gearbox is the second stage in the transmission system, after the clutch. In most models, you can find the gearbox bolted to the rear of the engine, with the clutch between them. Newer manual transmissions typically have five or six different forward gear ratios, but some have as few as three or even as many as seven.
VW vehicles are perhaps known more for reliability than anything else. As a luxury brand under the same corporate umbrella, Audi models enjoy the same reputation. Nevertheless, every vehicle needs maintenance and occasional repair.
The synchronizer is a common fail point in Audi vehicles with manual transmissions. Many drivers also report the gearbox being slow to respond. If you ever hear your manual transmission start to make weird noises—or worse still, smell burning—bring your Audi to a Mister Transmission location as soon as you can.
Some common signs of a problem with an Audi manual transmission include:
Perhaps the most common issue with Audi manual transmissions is a problem common among all manual transmissions: the clutch. The clutch is integral to the operation of a manual transmission, but these parts go through a lot. A worn out clutch is a common issue. At Mister Transmission, we can inspect your Audi’s clutch and replace it if necessary. Gear teeth commonly wear down, too, so we may replace these as well.
Even Audi vehicles with manual transmissions have onboard computers. We can interface with your Audi’s onboard computer to figure out your transmission problems. Connecting our diagnostic equipment to the computer generates a code that tells us where the problem is. After this, our technicians often want to take your Audi for a test drive.
Sometimes our technicians decide that a comprehensive, hands-on evaluation is necessary. However, Audi transmissions require only minor repairs, so our precise diagnostic process can minimize repair costs.
At Mister Transmission, we are experts at Audi transmission service, repair, and maintenance. We’ve been repairing transmissions for 60 years and our technicians undertake some of the most advanced training available, so we can repair and maintain any Audi model.
Whether you’re experiencing problems with your Audi’s transmission or it just needs some routine maintenance, you can contact Mister Transmission. Our Multi-Check Inspection can find any problem your manual transmission may have.
The evolution of transmissions has made these machines and systems increasingly complex. When transmission repairs are required, determining the cause and cure for what ails can be tricky.
