Black or white answers are gold in my books. Not "it may or may not be this". Anyone can plug in a scan tool and read it out loud; What separates a specialist from a regular mechanic is to have the tools to look at the data and be able to interpret it. My 2007 V6 Accord (nicknamed "Nugget") was pulling a code for a P0741 (Torque converter) shortly after another shop put a used transmission in. Their diagnosis was that the torque converter was bad, which would involve removing the transmission again after already dropping a grand in labour to install it. I wanted a second opinion before I went through the hassle of an LKQ warranty claim. Mr. T plugged in their fancy scan tool, and found a "permanent" type code that couldn't be cleared with a regular scan tool. After clearing that code, and monitoring all the values returned from the transmission (this is where their expertise comes in), they gave the nugget's transmission a clean bill of health. I was ready to drop a lot of money on a new torque converter as LKQ only covers part of the labour, and their integrity saved me that hassle... all for a diag fee? I'd do that again anyday. Thanks Brad! Hoping the nugget stays healthy for many years to come!
